Stuff Sam Says Part 7 – Lock down edition – Don’t you judge me

Well then, folks.

Here we are.

Just when we thought 2020 couldn’t surprise us any further with its leap year and mass Australian bush fires, we now find that March 2020 falls right on the upward curve of a global pandemic.

I’m logging on tonight just after the announcement that the UK will be enforcing a nationwide lock down, including the closure of all non-essential shops and services, a crackdown on non-essential travel and a widespread feeling of, ‘well, shit’.

I can’t say I’m especially surprised. We were already way behind the likes of Italy and Spain in putting these measures in place, so it was only a matter of time before BoJo stepped up to the plate and did the sensible thing to ensure public safety.

When I sat down to write this blog two weeks ago (and didn’t finish it, because life), I was enjoying spending more time with my sister (Lora) and nephew (Sam), after an extended period where work came first. This meant I was once again able to feverishly collate all of the peculiar things you can expect a nine-year-old boy to come out with when he’s been raised on a diet of Rik Mayall, YouTube stars and family in-jokes.

I have of course been doing other things too. Up until a week ago it was essentially business as usual until instructed otherwise; bottom wiping supplies were bountiful (or at least, more so than now), bread was readily available and we could all still leave the house without widespread concern (we thought, naively).

My colleagues and I were also still working from the office because, as we all know, even when the world is at its lowest ebb, there’s one thing businesses still need; PR and marketing. Most brands are now feverishly searching for appropriate methods to get their messages out during this unprecedented time of crisis, meaning we’re soldiering on, albeit from the ‘comfort’ of our own homes. Which in my house means trying to work with a cat on your shoulder every 30 minutes…

So, without further ado, I bring you a new edition of Stuff Sam Says from the freshly locked down James household. A bit of light relief now that you’re stuck indoors with little choice but to read whatever shite you can find on the internet of an evening…

Enjoy!
